Hey Everyone!
I hope you’re all well 🙂
At the moment, almost everyone seems to be on or looking forward to a beach holiday. It’s the time of year when everyone flocks to tourist hotspots, to laze on the beach, explore the shops and enjoy a much-needed break in the sun. But, that’s certainly not for everyone. Some of us can’t stand the idea on lying on a beach that’s absolutely packed with tourists or fighting for a sun lounger before we’ve even had breakfast. Holidays like this can be good fun, but they can also be stressful and expensive, and they never really give you an authentic view of the place that you are visiting. You just get to see the built-up tourist areas, which are usually a world away from how the locals in the surrounding area live. If you are looking for something a little different for your next vacation, why not try one of these fabulous alternatives.
Camping
Camping is a proper family classic. Get your family or best friends into the car, add a roof rack – see page for help, pack a tent, sleeping bags, some cooking equipment and food, your camera and some other camping essentials and head out to a scenic destination, where there’s plenty of nature to explore. Then, enjoy being offline and in nature. Get back out there in the real world and enjoy all it has to offer. Play camping games, enjoy campfire meals, lie down and look up at the stars and truly reconnect with your camp companions, away from all of the distractions and pressures of everyday life and the internet.
It’s probably fair to say that camping isn’t for everyone either. But, with some cool camping gadgets, it can feel a little more glamorous, and if it’s still not for you, what about the increasingly popular alternative of glamping?
A Cruise
We often think that cruises are for the older generation, to enjoy a relaxing and gentle break when they’ve got money to spare. This is so not the case. Cruises don’t have to be expensive. Boats aren’t packed with octogenarians. There’s plenty to do and see, loads of food, entertainment to suit everyone, comfortable rooms and a cruise gives you the chance to see more than one destination on your break.
Colder Climates
If the idea of a beach break is hell because you just don’t like the sunshine, why not avoid it altogether? Get a break from all of the sun at home by visiting a colder destination, like Iceland. You could get to see the northern lights, chill out in ice hotels and try some adrenaline pumping winter sports.
Learn Something New
Why not use your vacation time to learn something new or to have a proper adventure? There are places all over the world that have got plenty more to offer than a beach and sun. Why not take a photography course? Go on a historic tour of a famous city? Go on a group tour of Albania or New Zealand? You could snorkel the great barrier reef or head out to Thailand for a Yoga Retreat. Â
