Hey Everyone,
Hope you are all well!
Today I wanted to address some of my most asked questions which is always about fear of moving to a new place and how to make new friends and find events to attend. Moving to university didn’t just involve moving to a new city, but also a whole new country. Therefore, I certainly know the fear of wondering whether you’ll make friends easily and have a good social life in a totally new environment. Moving to university was one of the best decisions I ever made and I have now attended so many events with such a wide variety of people. Therefore I thought I would finally answer this commonly asked question by giving you my 4 top tips on how to find great events in your local area and easily make friends.
1. Know what you enjoy
My first tip, and probably the most important one, is being aware of what your hobbies and interests are. I know it sounds simple but it’s so easy to attend events which you wouldn’t normally have interest in when you’re trying to make friends. However, when you stick to things you are passionate about it becomes so much easier to find common ground with others and keep up conversation. I know joining the fashion society in my first week of university helped me to gain so many new friends and we never ran out of things to chat about.
2. Use social media to your advantage
Social media can be such a useful tool when it comes to making friends. If you feel a bit shy turning up to an event by yourself then use Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to find people who might also be interested in attending and reach out to them. Even if there isn’t anything interesting going on then join a Facebook group, find people who you get along with and make your own event. I’ve not just made friends but have also found jobs from modelling, fashion and magazine groups on social media!
3. Join societies
Anyone will tell you that joining societies or clubs is the best way to make friends. This goes back to my first tip about knowing your interests and hobbies. Once you know what you enjoy then go out and join a club or society at your school/university or in your local town. Joining societies was such a great experience for me at university. They give you really useful contacts, great advice, help to build your experience and they usually hold weekly events which always turn into the best memories. The great thing is that you can join as many societies as you want so if you are unsure about something you can still give it a go. There’s no harm in trying something out.
4. Get on the internet
My final tip is to use the internet when it comes to finding events in your local area. I always keep an eye on websites such as eventful.com and eventbrite.com as they post about new festivals, concerts, shows and events on a daily basis.
Recently I found events that I know the majority of my followers would love from Trendy Treat. They are soon going to be holding three dining events where you can make friends and meet upcoming models, actresses and artists. You will receive your own globally inspired catered meal and gain a unique insight into the art and fashion world. These types are event are the gems that I love finding on websites like Eventbrite. Luckily enough the 3 events are being held in areas that lots of my followers are from. They are staring in Dubai on the 16th August, moving to LA for the 20th August and finishing in Paris on the 8th September. If you are interesting in attending these events then click here.
Even if this event isn’t in your area or isn’t for you, it just goes to show how easy it is to find things you might enjoy by simply visiting a website. The events are always really unique and will not only allow you to make friends but also help you to gain contracts and knowledge that you might not find elsewhere.
So if you are worried about moving to a new city or are just looking to improve your social life then make sure to follow my 4 top tips. Don’t forget to leave a comment down below about how you have found events in your area and made new friends.
